EDT 6700 - Instructional Design - Independent Study

1. Course Activities Overview
This independent study consisted of agreed upon activities by the student and faculty advisor relating to various academic disciplines learned during the IDDL program. The primary goal was to promote the program using social media.
I proposed a plan to market the program using Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter combined with two promotional videos: one video to promote the program in general, and one to interview former IDDL students who provided testimony of their experiences in the program, and how IDDL benefited them in their careers.

2. Promotional Video #1 - IDDL Programs
The goal of the “IDDL Programs” video was to provide a general definition of Instructional Design and give a brief overview of the certificate and masters programs. This video incorporated the use of high definition images with narrated content.
Camtasia 2018 was used to edit and produce the video, which incorporated IDDL various multimedia techniques such as signaling, an animated introduction and conclusion with music, incorporation of an IDDL logo created by the WSU marketing department, and upload/sharing to YouTube.

3. Promotional Video #2 - Benefits of IDDL
For this video, I worked with three former IDDL students to capture a video account of their IDDL program experiences,with a focus on how the program helped them in their careers. The participants met with me at Wright State, where we borrowed an empty classroom to capture the video.
The video was shot using a Canon SL2 DLSR camera at 720p/60 frames per second. Approximately 60 minutes of video was captured, which required about 6 hours of editing for the final product.

4. IDDL Marketing and Social Media
Prior to this course, the IDDL program had little social media presence. Although it sounds easy to create a social media page for the program, a significant amount of research was required to ensure any social media representing Wright State and IDDL complied with University marketing standards.
Early in the course, I met with the Marketing Director to discuss the project. She provided a wealth of information that helped facilitate social media for IDDL, including the creation of custom WSU IDDL profile and banner images for Facebook and Twitter.
The completed videos are featured on the IDDL social media sites to tie the marketing and promotion aspects of the independent study together.

Summary
This independent study and the idea of promoting IDDL to prospective students was an extremely rewarding experience. It combined creative freedom with additional exposure and practice using various multimedia disciplines. If one person discovers the IDDL program due to the work completed in this course, it will have been worth the effort.
