Digital Commerce
Overview
Digital commerce involves the electronic purchasing and selling of goods and services over the internet. The connection to digital citizenship involves educating children and adult students how to become informed consumers. This information ranges from learning how to differentiate legitimate purchases from dishonest ones, to exercising data security when sharing personal financial information. Methods of increasing digital commerce awareness include learning the difference between legitimate, secure websites, and websites that scam users by stealing their financial and personal information. Although digital commerce may not have a direct connection to education, it is the goal of teachers and technology leaders to coach students of all ages on how to become educated members of society. Uninformed financial decisions can result in life long consequences including loss of income to poor credit ratings (Ribble, 2015).

Connections to Digital Commerce
Digital Commerce is a way of life in my role as a Facility Manager at NASIC. One hundred percent of the research performed for the purchase of goods and service is conducted using internet research using various e-commerce websites. Websites for vendors such as Lowes, Grainger, and Amazon have replaced paper-based catalogs saving time and environmental resources such as paper, ink, and manufacturing processes. There are also government-based e-commerce websites including Office Runway and GSA Advantage that offer alternatives to commercial based websites and provide competitive pricing in a secure online environment.
